Maximum 18 fps AF/AE tracking sequential shooting
By developing the 20M Live MOS sensor together with the TruePic VIII image processor, framing and sequential shooting of moving subjects using 18-fps AF/AE tracking is made possible while maintaining the high 20M pixel count. With AF/AE tracking high-speed sequential shooting that beats that of DSLRs, it easy to frame fast-moving subjects and capture the precise moment in the finest detail.
Maximum 60 fps AF/AE lock sequential shooting
Development of the new 20M Live MOS sensor together with the TruePic VIII image processor made maximum 60-fps AF/AE lock high-speed sequential shooting possible at a 20M pixel count. Amazing sequential shooting speed beyond that of DSLR cameras lets you capture split-second moments that cannot be seen with the naked eye, in incredible detail.
Pro Capture is a new feature that provides time-lag-free shooting so you can capture the precise, desired moment. The camera begins recording 20M images once the shutter button is half-pressed, and retains up to 14 of the most recent images when the shutter button is full-pressed. By capturing moments just prior to when the shutter is released, Pro Capture makes up for time lag caused by human reflexes and camera processing.
High-speed AF system
A completely new AF system makes it possible to capture fast-moving subjects. With a Dual FAST AF system that uses the 121-point AF area for both On-chip Phase Detection AF and Contrast AF, the E-M1 Mark II delivers dramatic advancements in AF precision, tracking performance, and operability.
121-point All-cross-type On-chip Phase Detection AF
This E-M1 Mark II is equipped with an 11 x 11 121-point All-cross-type sensor. With an AF area that covers 75% vertically and 80% horizontally, subjects can be tracked across a wide range. All 121 points are cross-type focus points, making subject detection very accurate.
New AF algorithm
The new 121-point All-cross-type On-chip Phase Detection sensor and new TruePic VIII image processor significantly improve focus detection performance. The new moving subject tracking algorithm makes it possible to continue tracking various subject changes.
5-level C-AF tracking sensitivity settings
5 levels of C-AF tracking sensitivity are available. Changing the tracking sensitivity to match the subject or scene provides more effective AF tracking performance
This model is equipped with an AF limiter function, which lets you set three AF operating areas. This can reduce AF operating time even on lenses without a focus limiter, helping to focus instantly. It is also possible to instantly turn the function on and off via customised controls.
AF target modes
A 5-point group target has been added for a total of four different AF target modes. You can switch AF Target modes and change the AF Target position with minimum operation. AF Target modes can be displayed and hidden via customised controls. With this you can quickly activate the right mode for your subject.
AF Target mode, AF target position, and Face/Eye Priority can be changed with a single operation. Simply customise settings so you can use your preferred controls.
Moving-subject-tracking cluster display
A cluster display that moves along with the subject makes it easy to confirm that the subject is continuously in focus.
AF Targeting Pad
The AF Targeting Pad allows you to control the position of the AF target by moving your finger across the rear monitor as you keep your eye to the viewfinder. Your nose touching the rear monitor will not affect touch control of the AF target. A double-tap turns the AF Targeting Pad on and off (When AF Targeting Pad is activated from the menu).
This model is equipped with a high-speed viewfinder with a maximum frame rate of 120 fps, and a minimum display time lag of 0.005 sec. for optimal image display. With this display you won't miss capturing the precise moment when shooting fast-moving subjects.
Camera operation speed has been significantly accelerated with release time lag shortened by approximately 70%, and playback frame advance made 3 times faster.
Technology that supports high-speed performance
Compared to its predecessor, the E-M1 Mark II’s image processor is 3.5 times faster, sensor transfer speed is 3 times faster, and buffer memory capacity is 2 times larger. These significant advancements support the new AF system.
